It's hard if your not a Johnson/Gordon/Jr Fan

I am sick and tired, of the chase, I follow a driver not in the Chase. I find it terrible, to watch the ticker at the top, and find a driver, suddenly two laps down, with out any reasons to the why's and the where's.

I want to know, what knocked David Blaney out, or why David Gilliland, is not doing so well. I want to know what befell a driver who has gone out, even if it only an also ran. A few weeks ago Ward Burton went out early and no one mentioned why.

I am sick of being told who I am supposed to follow, by the TV companies. I do not support Johnson, or Gordon, or Jr. I do not follow a bow tie driver at all, and contrary to ABC's opinion there are more than 12 drivers on the tracks, well they seem to think there might be 13 or 14, at a push, there are 43 drivers, cover all 43, and tell us why that driver is gone out.

I am sick of them going through the field, and only mentioning the chase drivers, ignoring those outside the chase who are running well. Is it no wonder the smaller teams are loosing their sponsorships and finding it even harder to compete, when they are never mentioned, unless they are unfortunate enough to wreck.

Bring back the old fashioned championship with old fashioned Tv, and ditch the current package, not that I am blaming ABC, the more I think about it, the more I realise Nascar is controlling what we see. Brian France has a lot to answer for.

Sorry but if you're driver/team isn't competitive, isn't a winner, or a champion, then they aren't going to get t.v. coverage. I mean, who cares about who's running 30th? Most of the time if Gordon, Johnson, or Jr are running in the 30's or even the 20's they don't get hardly any coverage. If you want to watch a cruddy driver for the whole race then go buy a race ticket so you can watch who ever you want to. The reason they emphasize the chase drivers is because they are the ones going for the championship, which is basically the whole point of the entire season. Most people don't care at all how Blaney or some other driver messed up their car and why they are running 30th, especially when this happens just about every weekend. Would you want to watch the amazing battle of cars running in the 30's that are more than a lap down instead of watching people going for the lead and the win?

The chase has at least added some interest to the final ten races. If you think people don't watch because of the chase format, just go back to before the chase. If you have a champion decided races before the final race, most people won't care about what happens. At least when it comes to homestead i'll have a reason to watch, instead of just knowing that Jr is going to suck all night long. The chase is a great addition to the sport. On the other hand, I am most definitely not saying the coverage is perfect but it's idiotic to expect ABC, FOX, or ESPN to be able to cover every story and cover all 43 drivers at once.

I agree too.  I like the #20, but I also like a few other drivers...Blaney being one of them.  I have traveled to Stewart's Eldora Speedway a few times each summer since the early 80s.  Blaney was a WoO Sprint car driver then and I watched him cut his teeth.  This year, I have seen races at Watkins Glen, MIS, and LMS.  I am a huge NASCAR fan.  The CHASE is suppose to be the ultimate finish in racing.  Each year, for one reason or another, it never lives up to it's billing!!!  I find myself mowing grass, pitching horseshoes, or whatever, instead of watching a race during the CHASE (boring).  Unfortunately, during the CHASE, the media all of a sudden treats the other 31 drivers and those drivers not doing well in the CHASE like second-class citizens.
I too think a change needs to take place in the points system for the CHASE.  I don't have the answer, but something needs to be done.  I never miss a race during the first 26 races.  It is a different story when the CHASE starts.

I agree with you completely about the TV coverage although I'm not sure Brian France has anything to do with the actual coverage. The sad truth is that a large majority of fans are cheering for Gordon, Johnson, Jr., or Stewart. ABC seems to be simply catering to what they perceive to be what the fans want to see. For the most part, I think most fans are fine with seeing their favorite driver go in circles. Everybody loves a winner.

Unfortunately, for race fans like us, watching only the favorite drivers during every race is a very painful experience. ABC is not in the business of announcing a race. The "announcers" are mostly color commentators with their main goal being TV ratings. Obviously, Ward Burton in their opinion is not a factor in driving viewers to the TV. Even though their are many race fans that like to keep track of the whole field.
