I may be in the minority, but the plate races at Daytona this year produced two of the best finishes in years -- for all tracks, not just plate tracks. We even saw a hint (just a hint) of the old-style slingshot move come back in both the Daytona 500 and Pepsi 400.
If the COT pokes a bigger hole in the air, the superspeedway races could, in theory, be even better. But what if it messes up what suddenly seems to be working?
It may take some unusual circumstances, but plate races can still have drama and there own brand of strategy. And it still takes great drivers to pull off winning moves. Mark Martin drove like a champ -- cagey and clean. Harvick got into a good position, used a great push and earned a great win.
That was a great Daytona 500.
Sounds like more and more of the drivers are saying good things about the Car of Tomor -- er Today. Has NASCAR told them to stop the negative comments or are they really coming around? You never can tell ...
Will NASCAR ever add a "wildcard" playoff race to add a car or two to the Chase? Sort of a Bud Shootout type race for the cars in 11th through 21st or something?
Just a thought ...
