Give it Up Mark

Mark Martin is now telling us that he may run a limited schedule in the NEXTEL Cup Series or even a full-time deal in 2007, just not in the No. 6 Ford at Roush Racing. I don't know about you, but this is getting a bit tiresome. Didn't we hear this retirement talk from, say, Michael Jordan, about 150 times? What about Sugar Ray Leonard, the boxer? He came in and out of retirement a few hundred times as well.

Martin looks as if he'd be an instant championship contender in the truck series, so why not just go full-time with that? He always says that he's not doing this just to win a championship. He's not fooling anybody anymore, that's just what he's doing. He wants to win a Cup Series championship worse than anything else in the world, otherwise he would just quit.

You're crying wolf too many times, Mark. The media just doesn't believe you any more, and neither should the fans. Get out while you still have some dignity left, will ya?

I think Akersofracing don't like Mark. Get off his back - whatever he decides, I will follow him.......

I never said Martin couldn't still race. I know he can still drive, and so can Rusty, for that matter. The deal is, however, that it's getting tiresome about him saying he's going to retire and run the trucks -- where he could definitely win a championship -- and then him not do it. Maybe dignity was the wrong word -- credability is a better one. I respect Mark as a driver, perhaps the best one when it comes to racing everybody clean. He hasn't forgotten how to win. He just needs to not say anything about his future plans until they are set.  The media, after all, eats the stuff up about him changing his mind.

Had Rusty Wallace been competitive the past several years he wouldn't of retired. Martin is running up front and very competitive..  Let the man race.

Mark is enjoying his ride this year, not going for a cup part time, guess he proved you to be full of crap. I'm glad he enjoying what he's doing, he deserves it.

What are you talking about "Get out while you still have some dignity left, will ya?". Mark still has a lot of dignity has been a championship contender every year. Has the thought of his loyalty to Roush crossed your mind? He didn't retire last year because Jack didn't have anyone to drive his car and now the rumor is that Kluever isn't going to be in the 6 car now. That means Jack doesn't have a driver again. Also I'm sure Mark has mixed feelings about retireing. It is hard to leave something you love. Yes, he would be an instant contender in the truck series, but it could be hard to leave if Jack needs him. There isn't much loyalty left in sports these days, but there is some. If he doesn't run with Jack next year I am sure it will be with Yates in a Roush backed car.

I think the Craftsman Truck Series needs Mark Martin.  With his fan following, he'd be a huge assest for that series.  Maybe it's just my imagination, but it it seems the truck series has lost a little bit of it's early magic over the last few years.  Then again, maybe I just don't like change.  Come race trucks Mark!

I agree, let the man race! I for one, will be sad when we won't have MM to root for on Race day.
