Being a Mustang owner I am excited to see that the pony car will be headed to NASCAR next year in the Nationwide Series.

Other manufacturers have yet to officially announce the models they will run when the new NNS car is rolled out, but it’s expected to be the Impala SS for Chevy, the Challenger for Dodge and the Camry for Toyota.

The new Ford Nationwide COT will resemble the Mustang as close as it can, staying within the body and safety restrictions for the new car.

Chevy says this is one of the reasons they are considering not to run the Camaro as it would be difficult to capture the individuality of the car.

With Ford committed and Dodge leaning towards the Challenger, I think Chevy should use the new car rollout as an opportunity to promote the Camaro.

What do you think?

Clint Bowyer might not know much a lot about golf, but that’s not going to stop him from playing and having a little fun in the process.

After winning the Nationwide race at Daytona over the weekend, Bowyer talked about the video that is on You Tube where he punk'd his teammate Kevin Harvick on the golf course.

When visiting the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri Bowyer stopped into a golf place and saw some exploding balls sitting at the counter. With Harvick talking his golf game up, Bowyer saw the perfect opportunity to get Harvick on the course.

“Harvick had been practicing up and talking a big game on his golf game so I thought I’d go playing,” Bowyer said.

Bowyer talked about how that prank was executed.

“His handler Josh and I staged it. I got his attention and Josh switched out the balls.”

The skies over Lowe’s Motor Speedway might have been dark, but nothing was brighter at the track over the weekend than the colors of red, white and blue.

NASCAR and Lowe’s Motor Speedway did another fantastic job of paying tribute to the men and women who are serving, and that have served, in the Armed Forces during the Coca-Cola 600.

But none was more touching than NASCAR stopping the race at 3 p.m. for a National Moment of Remembrance. For one minute the sound of the 800 horsepower engines were silenced and the 190 mph speeds came to a halt to honor those who have died for our freedom.

Along with the pre-race festivities and memorial tributes, some of the race cars also honored the Armed Forces this past weekend. The most notable was the return of the Jimmie Johnson’s patriotic paint scheme. After a one year hiatus, crew chief Chad Knaus helped bring back the back scheme. This time Knaus had the chance to use some images of the cars his Dad raced to come up with the paint scheme. The No. 48 Chevrolet also featured 12,548 Lowe’s employees who are military veterans or reservists.

Patrick Dempsey might have acquired the rights to the book “The Art of Racing in the Rain,” but it turned out to be a reality this past weekend when he had to compete in wet conditions in Sunday’s Grand-Am race at new Jeresey Motorsports Park.

Dempsey, who made his second start of the season, scored a career-best finish (seventh) in the GT class on a rainy day behind the wheel of the No. 40  Mazda RX-8 he co-drives with Joe Foster.

“I'm happy for the result, and I'm happy for Mazda,” Dempsey said.  “It's been a great weekend. Conditions were bad, but that's racing. I had a blast."

The last time Dempsey competed in the rain was in 2008 at Mid-Ohio when he finished 12th.

As for the book, "The Art of Racing in the Rain” is about a dog named Enzo that learns from his master, who is an up-and-coming race car driver. One of the things Enzo enjoys is watching tapes of his owner  and other drivers race in the rain. His favorite race was the 1993 Grand Prix of Europe in which Ayrton Senna lapped the entire field except for one car in the rain.
