More Horses for Kentucky in May
I think we can go back two weeks and offer a simple solution to get Kentucky Speedway on the schedule.

Although it might be far fetched, if I could be king for a day this is what I would propose.

Since SMI is purchasing Kentucky Speedway why not take the date from the All-Star Race and move it to Kentucky?

Yes, that’s right, eliminate the All-Star race and move a 37th points paying race to Kentucky, leaving all other current SMI events on the schedule.

What about the fans? -Well the All-Star week can still be held of sorts in Charlotte leading up the Coca-Cola 600. Move qualifying to Friday and hold a Sprint Fan EXPO downtown the week with all the drivers, possibly at the Time Warner Cable Arena. Also keep the Pit Crew Challenge in tact. Remember when the Pit Crew Challenge was held in Rockingham?

What about Sprint? - Give Sprint the naming rights to the race and they can even offer a larger purse similar to the All-Star Race.

Kentucky Speedway is said to be in a market that NASCAR’s is not interested in because of tracks already in close vicinity to tracks already out there. But right now there are no new tracks on the horizon and a change would have to come from an existing facility.

As for selling seats it shouldn’t be a problem. Kentucky Speedway has always had great support for Nationwide and Truck Series events. And as the nearby tracks Bristol and Indy there’s no doubt that Kentucky will have no effect on them selling out.

Just think. Kentucky could have two of the biggest sporting events in one month. First the running of the Kentucky Derby and then running of even more horses around the 1.5-mile Sparta track with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Two weeks ago that’s something I would have rather been watching.

I agree that pocono is a boring race and even the road races lack fan and t.v. response as far as viewers.Kentucky speedway has excellent fan base and I think the car owners and drivers should voice thier opinion on how they feel about one date at KY not let the track owners make nascars mind up.This not politics, ITS A SPORT!!!!!

Kentucky deserves a race....I don't know about getting rid of the All-Star Race...I'd rather them drop Pocono or Louden.

I like the idea of dropping both Louden races for Kentucky better.

Or Martinsville.
