No Left Turns, This Time
Many drag strips across the country hold special events where you can take your personal car down the quarter-mile to find out what kind of speed you have in your ride.

Now that there is a drag strip in NASCAR’s backyard, the zMax Dragway will to host its first NASCAR night on Wednesday where drivers, owners and crew members will have that opportunity.

Greg Biffle, Matt Kenseth and Rick Hendrick are among the NASCAR personalities that are scheduled to race.

Biffle will be racing his 2007 Shelby GT 500.

"It's been since high school since I've raced on a drag strip," Biffle said. "I used to race Wednesday night 'grudge matches' on the eighth-mile back home. This will be the first opportunity I've had to go back to a dragway and run my own car since back in those days.”

Being an owner of a Ford Mustang GT there’s nothing more I would like to do than take my car down the strip. The closest thing so far that I have done to that urge was taking a few laps around the Lowe’s Motor Speedway back in 2004 when I owned a Ford Explorer during the end of the year merchandise blowout at the track. Although the laps around the track were following a pace car, the backstretch gave me the opportunity to open it up a little bit.

Flashing back to Driver’s Ed in High School in 1994 when my favorite day of the class was when you got to gun a car (not actually a hot rod, but a Ford Tempo) across a parking lot and slam on the breaks, for me a nothing would compare to getting the chance to burn down the quarter-mile in my car.

Given the opportunity, what car would you like to race at a drag strip?
