Contract by Text
Contract negations in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series are changing because of technology.

Mark Martin was the latest to sign a new deal, announcing he would go to Hendrick Motorsports for two years starting in 2009.

But it was the way the speculated deal came about that made it interesting.

“I don't know why this was such a bad kept secret unless people were snooping in on our text messages,” Martin said.

Martin said that 50% of the deal was done by text messaging between Rick Hendrick and himself.

“I think that's pretty cool because I just started to learn how to text myself,” Martin said.

Hendrick also learned how to text recently thanks to Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmie Johnson.

“I had to learn how to do that because they won’t return your phone calls,” Hendrick said.
