Horsepower Heads to Nationwide
Being a Mustang owner I am excited to see that the pony car will be headed to NASCAR next year in the Nationwide Series.

Other manufacturers have yet to officially announce the models they will run when the new NNS car is rolled out, but it’s expected to be the Impala SS for Chevy, the Challenger for Dodge and the Camry for Toyota.

The new Ford Nationwide COT will resemble the Mustang as close as it can, staying within the body and safety restrictions for the new car.

Chevy says this is one of the reasons they are considering not to run the Camaro as it would be difficult to capture the individuality of the car.

With Ford committed and Dodge leaning towards the Challenger, I think Chevy should use the new car rollout as an opportunity to promote the Camaro.

What do you think?

If you honestly believe that NASCAR's version of your pony car will resemble what's on the showroom beyond the headlight, tailight and grill decals - you are in for a big suprise. GM has seen what NASCAR will do to the Camaro (turn it into another Crate Of Tomorrow like they did with the Impala and every other make in Sprint Cup) and they don't like it. NASCAR needs to turn back time as far as how the cars are skinned, have the cars templates fit what's in the showroom like they did in the 80's. Keep the safety features of the frame and cage, but get rid of the aero crap like airdams, sideskirts that go to the pavement and the rear wings. Car doesn't handle well that way?? Then the manufacturers can go back to the drawing board like they did back in the day. But that would be real competition, something they (manufacturers and NASCAR) apparently don't care for these days. Might as well watch an IRL race, all the same chassis and engines - just different decals and paint.
