It's Not Over Until It's Over

Sunday's ARCA RE/MAX Series finale provided some drama, to say the least.

Scott Speed had an 85-point cushion heading into the finale and basically just had to lock down a top-15 finish to secure his first series title.

But it was Speed's closet competitor in the points, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. that ended his title hopes. It all started when Stenhouse got into Speed, and sent him into the wall, early in the race while running in the top five. In a "Days of Thunder" type move, Speed was able to get back on the track later to retaliate and send Stenhouse into the wall to officially end both drivers championship hopes.

Penske development driver Justin Allgaier went on to win his sixth race of the season and the championship after trailing by 105 points heading into the race.

Allgaier's title came two days after he made his Nationwide Series debut with Penske. He had a solid run going until he was clipped while trying to avoid a multi-car accident. He went on to finish 34th.

The ARCA championship marked the first time in eight years that Frank Kimmel did not win the title. Kimmel, trailed by 145 points heading into Sunday and ended up finishing second in the standings, 50 points out. This coming in a season where he ran on limited sponsorship and volunteer help.

Hey JWack, is that when Stenhouse came out of the "Closet?"

To quote:
"But it was Speed's closet competitor in the points, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. that ended his title hopes. It all started when Stenhouse got into Speed, and sent him into the wall...."

Ha! I Kill Me!
