As we approch the end of the 2007 season

Jeff Gordan trails Jimmie Jhson by -86 pts heading into Homestead and as Jaun Pobalo wraps up his Rookie of the year title the open-wheel guys invade NASCAR i would like to have your comment i look at it from both side one side its good for the sport and the flip-side its bad because Dario Franctti has won the indy- 500 he has no experince is what will be know as the NASCAR Sprint Series Jaq Villnuve has made two starts

I think that the attraction of Open Wheel drivers to the sport of NASCAR says alot about where NASCAR is today. Not only is the sport itself incredibly more popular, but the competition is considered to be the best of the best by all types of drivers, and the cars are much safer to drive too. I think the more the merrier. Robby Gordon and Tony Stewart were open wheel drivers and they have added a lot to the sport, even if they have severe personality disorders.

As for the no experience claim, I can only say look to people like Tony Stewart. At one point in time he too was a rookie in NASCAR and less than ten years later he's got two cup titles and plenty of wins, fortune, and fame. There will always be rookies, but I consider INDY 500 champions as well as IRL champions much more than just mere rookies from the Busch series. There's a reason why Montoya is doing better than Gilliland. Why not join NASCAR and have a chance to make tons more money, be more safe doing it, and be considered part of an elite group which is considered to be some of the best race car drivers on earth?

Overall it's been one heck of a silly season for NASCAR. New open wheel drivers joining the sport, Jr leaving DEI, Gibbs to Toyota, Bruton Smith buying New Hampshire, Nationwide to sponsor the Busch series, and lets not forget the passing of Benny Parsons and Bobby Hamilton either, as well as the founder of Nascar Mr. France himself.
