The #8 Controversy...

I have been watching this whole brew-ah-ha over the #8 that is currently assigned to DEI.  There were rumors all about that there was a possibility that Teresa might let it go to Hendrick's with JR but as we learned the other day, an agreement couldn't be reached between the two so the #8 is going to stay at DEI.  In my opinion, and again, just my two cents, this was probably the worst thing that DEI could have done.  After all, so many people associate the 8 Car w/ Junior.  What's going to happen when he moves to another number?  His fans are going to follow.  No one I know that watches NASCAR pulls for a particular driver just because he has a certain number on his car.  :-)

JR has done a great job building his fan base and no matter what happens this year they are all going to follow him over to Hendricks and be sporting Hats, Jackets, T-Shirts, and probably even tattoos with his new number on it.  All that it appears DEI might have done was to possibly tick off a pretty large group of fans by not letting the #8 go.

Here's a question I have tho, isn't JR still a part owner of DEI?

If NASCAR is apparently the OWNER of the #8, and DEI only leases it, why didn't NASCAR have the final say and not Ms. GREEDhardt?  OOOHHH if only she wouldn't have been so stubborn and mean in this whole mess.  I bet it comes back to bite her in the behind.  What it took Dale Earnhardt years to build has taken her just a short time to ruin.  Sad part is Earnhardt works long and hard to leave something for his family not just the Mrs..  He must be rolling in his grave.  What a sad sad ending to what was an awesome legacy!!!!
