How many real stars in this firmament?

Forty names are eligible to be nominated to fill a single "Fan Vote" vacancy in the Sprint All-Star Race on May 17th.  There are no names in the list with which I'm not familiar, some are notable, others are just notorious.  Many are regulars and some are indeed fan favorites but many less than forty are true Stars.  A few are Stars in the open wheel ranks but are relegated to mere rookie status in NASCAR.  A media presence has made some of these folks household names as their voices and faces appear on radio and television in one capacity or another regularly, but does this make their stars bright enough to shine in an All-Star race?  A few of these pretenders have never even won a Cup race, if they fill this vacant seat the event should be named the almost all-star race.

One driver has amassed 44 Cup wins and garnered 55 poles throughout his career.  One entrant has accomplished a feat that may never be fulfilled again by winning the Daytona 500, the Winston 500 and the Southern 500 all in a single year!  In one Cup season he achieved a record eleven super speedway wins.  He has also been featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated and now drives for one of the truly legendary teams in all of NASCAR.  That man is Bill Elliot a true super star of NASCAR and the one man who deserves your vote for the upcoming All Star race At Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC this Saturday night.  Vote early and often for Bill Elliot a.k.a. "Awesome Bill from Dawsonville" or "Million Dollar Bill", a driver truly deserving of your vote.
