F-1 Done in North America
If you needed another reason to understand why Formula One racing isn't as popular in the United States as it is around the world take a look at the 2009 schedule.

With the U.S. Grand Prix already extinct, the geniuses that run the series have decided to just ignore North American completely and axed the Canadian Grand Prix as well.

Forget about the fact that the race was one of the more popular venues on the schedule and that with the demise of the USGP, American and Canadian race fans would support the event..

In the world of F-1, nothing makes sense that doesn't involve some kind of powerplay by the people who run the sport.

Max Mosely and Bernie Ecclestone have spent their entire careers crowing about what a global phenomenon Formula One racing is while destroying it brick by brick nearly on an annual basis.

F-1 still enjoys huge followings around the globe and does generate large television ratings. But passing is always at a premium and in general the "racing" isn't very exciting. F-1 stops are "events" much more than they are actual competition.

Now with no American drivers or teams on the circuit and the closest race in Europe, F-1's United States popularity has to be sinking even lower than it was just a couple of years ago.

But don't expect anyone associated with the series to care.

It's all about the money. Just look at where the new sites are located.
Bernie Big Bucks could giva rat's a$$ about the fans or the teams.
Don't be shocked when Australia loses their Grand Prix. Bernie has already told them to put in lights for a night race, which the track doesn't want or lose the date to a more European friendly timezone. Read that as he get's more money from a new site and more bucks for airing in prime time.
