Smash Mouth
I have to hand it to Kyle Busch - if he's not inciting NASCAR Nation by something he says he can find other means to rattle everyone's cages.

In case you missed it, Busch decided the best way to celebrate his Nationwide Series win Saturday night at Nashville Superspeedway was to smash the Gibson Guitar trophy in victory lane and share all of its little pieces with his crew.

Please.

I don't care if Busch planned on doing it before he won, got the okay from the track and sponsors and artist Sam Bass who created the trophy (all of which was reported but that I seriously doubt) and plans to pay for two or three replicas.

It was a cheap display by someone who obviously craves negative attention and unfortunately is getting his wish.

Listen I am in no way a Kyle Busch hater. He is without a doubt one of the brightest talents to come into NASCAR in a long time.

I also have no problem with him speaking his mind and not being a politically correct robot like other drivers in the sport today.

What I do have a problem with is when that personality crosses into childish behavior, whether it was his piss poor Who imitation Saturday night or when he runs away from the media after races that don't end exactly as he would have liked.

A wise man (my dad) once told me to "act like you've been there before."

Kyle Busch should take that remark to heart.

I think it was childish and asinine, typical Kyle Busch.

I heard that Bass was shocked at first but later was ok with it after Busch explained why he did it. I thought then that Bass said that only because he's a gentleman, unlike Busch.

I found this in an article by Jenna Fryer today which supports my thoughts.

Bass initially said he was stunned Saturday night to see Busch climb from his car, accept the trophy, then attempt to destroy it. But he had softened after speaking to Busch in Victory Lane, where the driver explained that Nashville had frustrated him for so long, he had promised his crew that if he ever claimed one of the coveted guitars, he’d smash it and share the pieces with the entire team.

On Monday, however, Bass told NASCAR Scene he was heartbroken to see Busch destroy the trophy.

“It was stunning, absolutely stunning to see that thing destroyed within seconds of him getting it,” Bass told Scene. “It’s his trophy, he can choose to do with it what he wants. But I’m not going to lie about it. If he had asked me, ‘Hey, I’m thinking about destroying that trophy guitar whenever I win it, what do you think?’ Of course I would have told him, ‘No! Please don’t. Let us give you a prop guitar.”’

I'm not really sure anyone of his crew will really appreciate the piece. It would have been so much cooler to have reproductions done for the crew and presented them at a press conference or another public forum. Seems a shame to ruin a piece of art. Or better yet, plan ahead and break an imitation. How cool would that have been for him to break an imitation to shock everyone and then pull out the real one as a 'gottcha'?
And you're probably right about the permission from Sam Bass. What was he going to do, say 'No'?
I cannot count how many times Val Rossi and his fans have staged very well planned 'impromptu' celebrations.
