Road to Excitement
If you've followed any of my work here at RacingOne or on radio and television you know I'm not a fan of road racing.

That is especially true of stock cars on a road course, a sight that has more often than not induced more than a few solid naps.

Until Sunday.

I'm not sure if the last couple of fuel mileage races at Pocono and Michigan were the reason why, but I found Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway pretty darn exciting.

And it wasn't just because of the double file restarts that were used for the first time on a road course, although those return to green flag racing segments were pretty thrilling to say the least.

Everyone seemed really in a hurry at Sonoma and from the drop of the green flag I sensed an urgency throughout the field.

Cars were sliding around like the track was covered in bacon grease and we saw two and three wide racing in some of the most unlikely places around the circuit.

The overtime finish was the cherry on the sundae, maybe only topped by the sight of seeing "The King" standing in victory lane with Kasey Kahne.

I'm not ready to go out and apply for an SCCA membership or start a road racing enthusiasts group on Facebook just yet.

But for one day at least, I didn't hate watching a Sprint Cup race on a road course.

Let's see what happens in August when The Glen rolls around.

Alright Pete, you are finally getting some religion. Road racing is where it's at.
