NCRA star, Steve King is in critical condition in the intensive care unit of the Mercy Medical Centre in Des Moines.

Just hours earlier King, who is from Jetmore Kansas, had contested the A-Feature of the 46th Knoxville Nationals in the company of the superstars of world sprint car racing. 

Late in the race, whilst running outside the top ten, King made heavy contact with the fence in turn three.

After initially being taken to the local Knoxville hospital, Steve was arrlifted to the Mercy Medical Centre in Des Moines. Meanwhile Steves parents arrived safely in Des Moines from Kansas, via private aircraft.

Steve has suffered brain injuries, and a decision on next steps will be taken shortly by a neurosurgeon.
