Corvette Generations - C4, C5, C6, what years are

What is the first generation called :  C1   ?

When did C3, C4, etc when did each new generation start.  The new C6 I think started when the headlights did not pop up at night?  Help?

C1 = 1953-1962

C2 = 1963-1967

C3 = 1968-1982

C4 = 1984-1996

C5 = 1997-2004

C6 = 2005-Present

I can't believe the c3 covered years from '68-'82
'68-mid '70s were true muscle cars.
Somewhere along '76 they were castrated. I had an '80. It looked OK, but 185hp with emissions and only availabel in a 3sp auto was rediculous.
IMHO '76-82 were the embarrassing years for Corvette!
