Bazemore possibly on his way out?????
8/21/2006 10:45 PM
I just seen the last part of an interview yesterday that someone with NHRA was having with Bazemore about someone being tested in his F/C this week. Anybody know any more about this? Mike Dunn was saying that when he has seen this before that the owner is thinking of changing drivers. I know Bazemore said in the interview all he knows is that someone is testing in it, and he didn't know if DSR is going to renew his contract yet or not, but that he is hoping that DSR will renew his contract. He's not a bad driver, it's just his that attitude SUCKS!!!!

We all know that in today's racing of any kind, you can't "just" blame the driver for lack of performance, but in this case it does appear to be time for a change.

IMO, the person calling the shots as the crew chief is the most important of the many factors that determine performance in FC racing.

Jack Beckman is in the FC at Indy tomorrow in order to obtain his fuel license from NHRA.  Whit's contract does end this year and at least from the outside looking in Whit doesn't appear to play nice in a team concept but at the same time, what are other drivers like when they aren't going rounds on the track while other teammates are winning championships or in contention to win one?  You think Whit is bad, put John Force in Whit's circumstances and then watch the soap opera.  You think he's a loose cannon on "Driving Force!"  LOL!

Don Schumacher on Sunday night on ESPN spoke about the events this week with Beckman and he described him as a close family friend that he is helping out.  He also went on to say  that Whit's contract does expire this year but that he has confidence in Whit.  He said that Whit does have positives and negatives but that he says what he thinks straight up and doesn't hold back and DS explained he liked that.

Now with all that said I do believe something is up but it may or may not be that DS is thinking a different direction than Whit.  If the contract is up meaning a new one has to be hammered out, what better way than to make you think your job is not secure and you go into contract talks a little more "less demanding" and maybe willing to take a lesser deal in oder to keep the seat.  I'm surprised after the events in Atlanta that DS stayed with Whit but was that his call or was it Matco's?  The sponsors have a lot of say in these deals as to who is gonna represent their Corp. name and Matco could be Whit's biggest allie or his worse nightmare too!

I personally would think that with all that has happened, the odds are Whit won't be back but I won't be surprised if he is either.  What ever differences Whit and Capps had, at least on the surface, seemed resolved and they even appear friends.  From Capps, I can believe that but with Whit I don't know.  Is this company orders to both or did the 2 of them take an off weekend for a romantic getaway and patch things up?

ROFL 1 [:rofl1]
