No, not Doug; but he was there also. Robby Wolfgang ran with the wingless sprints at Eagle as a support class for the Late Model show.

He looked really good, considering it was only his 6th time ever in a sprint car. Held his line really well, hunting around for a better line on a typical Late Model track (black from bottom to top, but smooth as glass). The Late Model announcer said "If we can get the track like asphalt, that's what we like". Unfortunately, that doesn't work well for wingless sprints.

Robby took 4th in the Feature last night at Rock Rapids, Iowa I'm told. Looks a little like his father, and might even drive like him after awhile.

All in all, an exciting A Main for the sprinters though. Don Droud Jr. on the pole but 2 visitors passed him early on.

I hope we can get the wingless ones back at Eagle again soon. They were a regular event last year, but the crowd never turned out. Sad, to say the least.

I've only seen wingless sprints once and that was at Eagle Raceway the night before a WoO race, maybe 6 or 7 years ago, maybe longer.  Think they were that California group---can't remember their name, CRA??? not sure.  It seemed like they were throwing em sideways at about the flagstand. 

It's funny when the wings came around I was bum ed. I really thought SprintCar racing was ruined. But now it's the other way around. The winged Sprinters put on a much better show, Specially when it is dry slick. Now I have seen wingless on tacky tracks and there fun to watch. But I seen some pretty good wingless races at Colorado National Speedway with Bubby Jones, Wolfgang, Ron Shuman, Rick Fergal, Dean Thompson, Steve Kinser, Lealand McSpadden, Sammy, Chuck Gurney, boy I know I'm leaving out a bunch but what a group.
