2008 Rolex 24 at Daytona
1/15/2008 2:52 PM

The race is next week and Im wondering if anyone is going to the race? I'm kinda disappointed because of only having 25 DP's but the drivers racing is outsanding. You have drivers from Nascar, F1, Irl and Champ-car. Pactrick Dempsey whos an actor is also racing. Here's the entry list.

Sorry, I didn't see any current F1 drivers listed.
The only ones with F1 experience that I noticed were Zonta and Montoya.
Are there more?

In spite of finding themselves behind the ideal timeline for preparation, Vision Racing will make its second appearance in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve. Signed drivers John Andretti, Ed Carpenter, A.J. Foyt IV and Vitor Meira will join team owner, Tony George, behind the wheel of the No. 03 Vision Racing Porsche Crawford Daytona Prototype in the Rolex 24 At Daytona.

I'll be there - filing reports throughout the race for racingone.com in addition to helping with the speedway public address system. Possibly do a blog, too, not sure yet.
Obviously, looking forward to the race. pretty impressive field. Lot of good lineups, with a few sleepers. The one I've got my eye on is the Samax car with McNish, Rockerfeller, Luhr and Zogaib.

add Jan Magnussen  (Stewart GP) to the F1 drivers list

By the way I'm listening to MRN talk about who is eating what when there's a great battle for 2nd place going on... do these guys never talk about the race?

This is the worst coverage of an Internationl event I have ever heard. Here in Europe we have had a couple of hours live on Eurosport with terrible commentary from mark Cole and the unforgivibly bad Carlton Kirby - neither of whom can pronounce the driver names.... aaargh...so I thought I would tune in to the Grand AM radio..

Oh my God - these guys are terrible... I thought that my computer was rebuffering - nope it's just LONG LONG ......dead air......silence... no car noise, no atmosphere, no excitement...I wonder have they ever even seen a motor race before let alone a sportscar race....roll on Sebring and the coverage by Radio Le Mans ... PLEASE PLEASE get some proper coverage....here's a quote " then we move into the critical phase of the race - the finish" DOH!

If anyone outside of the Infield at Daytona is ever going to take Daytona and Grand Am seriously then it has to start with Grand Am taking its own Blue Riband event seriously and getting some professional announcers in instead of this rubbish.... given how good the timing screens are (even on the web) there's no excuse for such ill-informed garbage....

I prefer the Rolex series to the ALMS series.  The Daytona Prototypes are, in my humble opinion extremely great looking, purpose-built race cars.  I like the GT1 class in ALMS, but those two topless classes, don't care for.

Not a fan of 24 hr racing.  Way too much luck involved.  Prefer their regular season "short" races, that's real racing.  I watch just about every racing series out there, but probably only watched a couple hours of the 24.
