Need some help

Ok, I have a HDMI cable from the hd cable box to my receiver input.
And a HDMI cable from my receiver out to my hdtv input.
And a HDMI cable from my Blue ray out to my receiver input.
I can,t get a DVD to play, it loads, i hit menu and get nothing. I've tried everything with the remotes that i can think of.
Having no luck.
Any help much appreciated.
