Is this IT for F1 fans?

Not much traffic on this part of the board.  Hope it picks up as the season draws closer.  Count me in as on who follows it.

I can't wait for the season to start. I hope it doesent feel weird with no Michael in the series. I think Kimi is going to kill Alonzo all year long.

The F1 board is a bit quiet but there are a few of us who follow the series and post here.  R1 has a strong NASCAR focus and is owned by NASCAR.  When NASCAR bought the site that drove off some board memebrs and then when they changed the message board software that drove off a few more members.  Most of the newer members seems to be mostly NASCAR fans so you do not see much activity on the F1 and AOWR boards.

As for my pick for the 2007 WDC, I think it will be Kimi if he gets off to a strong start.  If he does not that means the Red team has imploded with the loss of Schumacher.  If this is the case then look for Alonso to take it all.

Now Gearhead - as the writer who focuses on open wheel racing for R1, I do take a little offense to that comment =).

As for my pick in the WDC, I will stick to my earlier analysis during the car launches and choose Felipe Massa, with second place going to Kimi Raikkonen and third going to Jenson Button (although, second and third could flip flop).

Obviously, that gives the Constructor's title to Ferrari, with Honda/McLaren second and the other third.

Jorge, you and I have crossed paths enough times in the past on these boards for you to realize that I enjoy breaking R1's stones when it relates to the site's coverage of openwheel racing.  However, you have to admit that this site does provide more coverage of  NASCAR than openwheel.  Of course, for US race fans we have to accept that we live in a NASCAR world.  all that being said, I hope you can raise the profile of openwheel racing at this site.  BTW, is there anything you can do to have some ALMS news added to R1?

Now, back on point, what leads you to believe that Jenson Button and Honda are going to find themselves among the Top 3 teams this year in F1?  It seems they have been on the verge of accomplishing this for a while but they always find themselves coming up just a little bit short of the goal.

Gearhead - you should know by now that I love busting your stones too =).  And unfortunately, yes you are right, as US race fans, we do have to put up with a lot more NASCAR coverage than anything else.  Unfortunately, I don't see any ALMS being added to R1, but you know there are more than enough people who will discuss the series - myself included.

Now onto your F1 question - A few things lead me to believe this.  First and foremost was their charge at the end of last season.  Disregard Button's win (although that does take that monkey off his back), Honda's form rivaled that of Ferrari.  In winter testing, they have been towards the top-middle half of the charts, but most importantly, they have not had many technical breakdowns.

They still aren't on par with Ferrari, but I think that because of their improvements and stability in the drivers seat, they will surpass McLaren (who will need to adjust themselves, and fix their mechanical issues from  year's past) and Renault - who I feel will drop like a rock with the departure of Alonso.

What are your thoughts?

Jorge, I think the top 3 teams will stay the same with McClaren and Ferrari battling it out for the top spot.  Renault will put a really good car on the track but the driver lineup may not be enough to put them into the battle for the title.  If McClaren solves their reliability issues Alonso will battle Kimi for the WDC.  However, the loss of Schumacher and lots of managment changes at Ferrari may have hurt the team.  If this is true I give the edge to McClaren.

Regarding Honda, on paper they should be able to move up to battle the top 3 teams but for some reason they always seem to fall short.  However, this could be the year of they are able to incorporate data aquired from the sattelite team and relying on a stable driver lineup.  However, it will be Rubens who will lead the charge.  He is a better driver than Jenson IMHO.

Nice observations.  I am anxious to see how Honda plays out the year.

You can`t be serious, this is F1, not Nascar. You win if you are in a top team.

just joined today and i'll have plenty to say about f1....

just posted a comment about monty's win in the bush forum...

this year will be exciting than ever i think.  new blood...new era...

i personally didn't schumi and i'm glad he's gone.   f1 is better without him!!!

although i loved monty's battles with schumi...they hated each other and they raced extra hard against one another...great stuff to watch.

Too bad Chin did not stick around to race head to head with Kimi.  Oh well.  As much as most F1 fans are looking forward to the new era without Schumacher there will be a time when we look back and realize we witnessed something very special.
