Re: Is this IT for F1 fans?

GearHead:Jorge, you and I have crossed paths enough times in the past on these boards for you to realize that I enjoy breaking R1's stones when it relates to the site's coverage of openwheel racing. However, you have to admit that this site does provide more coverage of NASCAR than openwheel. Of course, for US race fans we have to accept that we live in a NASCAR world. all that being said, I hope you can raise the profile of openwheel racing at this site. BTW, is there anything you can do to have some ALMS news added to R1?
Now, back on point, what leads you to believe that Jenson Button and Honda are going to find themselves among the Top 3 teams this year in F1? It seems they have been on the verge of accomplishing this for a while but they always find themselves coming up just a little bit short of the goal.
Gearhead - you should know by now that I love busting your stones too =). And unfortunately, yes you are right, as US race fans, we do have to put up with a lot more NASCAR coverage than anything else. Unfortunately, I don't see any ALMS being added to R1, but you know there are more than enough people who will discuss the series - myself included.
Now onto your F1 question - A few things lead me to believe this. First and foremost was their charge at the end of last season. Disregard Button's win (although that does take that monkey off his back), Honda's form rivaled that of Ferrari. In winter testing, they have been towards the top-middle half of the charts, but most importantly, they have not had many technical breakdowns.
They still aren't on par with Ferrari, but I think that because of their improvements and stability in the drivers seat, they will surpass McLaren (who will need to adjust themselves, and fix their mechanical issues from year's past) and Renault - who I feel will drop like a rock with the departure of Alonso.
What are your thoughts?
