Howdy race fans!  It's been awhile since I've posted in here but I have something I want to get off my chest.
Am I the only one that thinks that Paul Page is an idiot?  Who the hell is he and what morgue did ESPN drag him out of?

The guy can't remember drivers names, stumbles over his tongue and his continuous references to Mike Dunn as "my son" are really getting on my nerves.

Granted, Mike and his dad "Big Jim" Dunn don't get along all that well, hell I'm not even sure if Jim is still alive but I would really like to see Mike knock this jerks lights out the next time he calls him "my son" and how in hell did he get the top spot in the booth when Mike has been doing commentary for what....two years or more now?  I thought Marty Reif was supposed to be Dunns partner in the booth.  What happened to that deal?

Did this Paul Page character catch someone at ESPN pokin' the pig?  Someones retarded weird uncle?  I can't figure it out.

Ok.....rant off.  Thanks for letting me vent

Thanks a million N.N.  According to what I found when I opened the link, I'm NOT the only one that thinks P.P. is an idiot.  Petition read and signed.  However, flow will still be impeded until that moroon is replaced by someone with actual knowledge of NHRA.

BRING BACK BOB FREY!!!

He has great knowledge of the sport and brings a much needed level of humor in addition.

Marty Reid was the best.  He does a good job in the Indy League or whatever they'll call it this year.  Had to carry Rusty Wallace though.  Paul Page is actually a very well known TV race announcer, mostly in Indy cars.  Not sure where he was for the 4 or 5 years before getting Marty's job in the booth.

Wow...a WHOPPING 367 sigs on that bad boy! Quite a movement. Not sure what tree you fellas just climbed out of but Paul Page is essentially a race broadcasting LEGEND. Perhaps 'aim and fire' (aka drag) racing isnt his forte' but thats hardly a reason to call the guy names and act like hes not fit for the gig. They generally flush people out of broadcasting at some point prior to 34 years... if they cant get er done!

A couple facts on this "moroon" :

He has won (or been a part of) 15 Emmy awards for his various racing telecasts.

He has been covering the Indy 500 on either radio or TV since 1974.

He is the official 'voice' of several racing video games.

His son is a race engineer for AGR.

O well...Im sure you 'internet experts' could do alot better. When can we catch your next broadcast?

Whoop de doo!!  Wow 15 Emmys (or parts)  !! Covered Indy!!  Voice overs for racing games!!  And his KID is an engineer!!!!!!

Those are certainly credentials for covering drag racing.  NOT

He should go back to covering Indy and the other left turners.

I stand by my first statement:  he's out of his depth in the booth with Mike Dunn.  In other words, JMHO he's an idiot in the booth with Dunn.  Well, no, actually those are the exact words.  There's plenty of more qualified announcers out there that could do justice to the job which is why I questioned how he got the job.  Does the name Elliot Spitzer ring any bells?  Gotta wonder who he caught..............

34 years of watching people go 'round and 'round has obviously had an effect and it ain't serving him well as an NHRA commentator.

Still want to see Dunn coldcock that jerk the next time he says "my son" although I know he has way too much class for that.

As far as MY first broadcast, I make no claims to being a professional broadcaster although I do, at least, know the names of the drivers and have enough class to NOT call someone not related to me "my son" but rest assured I will be the first one to congratulate you on YOUR first broadcast.

I view this whole thing like art.......I don't know anything about art, but I know what I like.

And I don't like Paul Page

It's like art

For years, drag race fans grew up with Dave McClellan and the late Steve Evans as the voice of drag racing not only back in the day with ABC Wide World of Sports but then when TNN picked up drag racing with the old Cavalcade of Sports which not only had drag racing but also Outlaw Sprints, Swamp Buggies, etc.  No one imagined a day when these 2 icons would not be around but then the unthinkable happened with the sudden death of Steve Evans and then the changes at TNN which moved NHRA to ESPN and in walks Marty Reid.

For most people who came upon drag racing on TV in the late 90's with TNN, it was no big deal but it was hard for those who had grown up with Steve and Dave.  Marty made his mistakes those first couple of seasons but after a while he really settled in and became a real pro.  Paul Page has nothing to prove to me as he has proved his stripes over the years with open wheel and off roading and I'm willing to grant him some time to get an know the sport and yes I know he's made mistakes.  I also believe Paul is really filling a gap short term until ESPN can find another Steve Evans or Dave McClellan who can become a fixture for the latest generation of fan as we had the afore mentioned from the 60's thru the 90's.

Steve Evans made the moniker "SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!" an attention getting catch phrase in the world of drag racing and he and Dave are to drag racing what Ken Squier or Bob Jenkins is to NASCAR!   Both IMO are alltime greats and a sprint car race on ESPN is nothing without Bob Jenkins!

C YA!
