I have really grown tired of the bitching about who puts on a better show, 410 vs 360, sprint vs late model, so I decided to put together a stat sheet for the racing series this year and see if the complaining is justifed or is it personal perception.  The main catagories are # of Leaders, Avg start of winner and # of cars at an event.  Here are the results that I have gotten so far:

Series          Car Count          Avg# of Leaders          AvgStartofWinner
WoO                  35.7                         2.35                                  2.65
ASCS                 47.3                        2.45                                  3.9
Ira                       33.6                        2.21                                  4.5

Late Models
WoO                   40.9                        2.58                                  3.58
Lucas                 51.6                        2.75                                  4.6
WRDL                35.25                      2.07                                  2.3

It appears to me that the # of cars at event has become the thing that makes people think if an event is good or not. You hear from the late model fans the same thing you hear from the WoO vs ASCS debate, that Lucas puts on better racing and passing but #'s don't bear that out.  Not one of these 6 series can claim that the winners regularly come from  anywhere but the first 5 staring spots.  Do winners come from deeper in field, sure but the averages tell you it is few and far between.

I would have tracked USAC but they are the worst at reporting starting spots, where the winner came from and how many cars were actually at the event.

One last thing,   the # of leaders was determined as follows:  Saldana(1-15,29-30), Schatz(16-28) = 3 leaders or 2 passes for the lead.

Thanks for the info.

And people wonder why the WoO is so "predictable!"

Good info to put out. But I learned long long time ago that your either a sprint car fan, late model fan, pavement fan, dirt fan, or maybe a drag race fan. And you don't care what the numbers are your still going to watch what you enjoy. Heck me I would rather watch 5 sprint cars on the track before 25 late models. And of course the faster the better. So that's my vote for 410's. But 360 racing puts on some very good shows.

if it goes fast, makes plenty of noise. two wheels or four, I like it.
