Advice for Indy?
8/6/2006 1:27 PM
I'm going to be going to the US Nationals Labor Day weekend for the
first time. Went two years ago but got rained out and couldn't stay
over. I only need one ticket. Planning to go Fri/Sat/Sun. Any advice on
where to find a ticket? Do I go there and scalp one or am I better off
finding one somewhere else? Website doesn't seem to have any good seats
left. Any advice on tickets, must see events, etc?
Thanks for the help,
Todd

Todd,
Unless you want reserved seating, the way I would suggest is to buy adult admission at the gate, with the adult admission, it includes the pit pass, and there is seating in the stands for just general adult admission, it is a little farther down the track. If the link works to NHRA, you can see in the diagram that the gold sections in the stands are for adult admission, it is on a first come - first serve basis. If you are like me and most of the other people, you will be walking around the pits alot when they are working on the cars and only in the stands when they are running the Pro Class, unless you want to watch the Sportsman class's too. You can always find a place to sit, people will come and go all day. You don't need to buy one from a scalper, unless you want reserve seating like I said earlier. Fri is $32.00, Sat - $40.00, and Sun - $46.00 for the adult admission. Also by buying the tickets each day, if it rains you won't be out the money, in case you can't make it back for the rain date. The only bad thing is possibly standing in line each day to but tickets.

The times I have been to Pomona. On Saturday we would watch the Pro classes qualify then go to the pits why the sportsman cars were running. On Sunday we would stay in the stands to keep our seats. Me and my friend liked sitting closer to finish line than the starting line. We figured it was better to see the finish than the starting line. Plus it only a quarter mile so you can still see the starting line well. This is Pomona, but Indy is probably the same. Have fun.

From my experience at Houston and Dallas; I would say "ditto" to the two previous posts.

Just remember one thing, they call this one "The big go".As far as the pro classes go sure everybody likes them. But for the sportsmen classes this is the one national event that can show case their entire year. This is where you will find drivers that can still swing a clutch petal,i.e. powershifting. To me there is just something awesome about watching a driver ride herd on a 9 second car, wheels up,banging gears. It ain't as easy as it looks.Myself i can't help but remember the days of the modified production cars.Man i'm getting up there.

Indy's No Chi-town or Vegas facility wise, but it's By far the Best race all year! 4 days of Fuel racing, Skoal FC shootout, 64 Comp field, Hemi shootout, Pro mods, and last but not least the "Nanook" returns!
