IRL in 2007 ?
7/22/2006 3:25 PM
With fewer cars at each track how long before tv pulls the plug I would think they have some kind of performance or minimum number in the contract. The IRL website has a let it out board and the majority seemed to talk about getting on with the merger. Maybe the two heads of the divisions need to step aside and let someone who has the best intentions for the fans and the sport take charge.

I dont think it will be long before their races will be few and far between on TV. With only 18-22 cars a race, plus only 200-300 mile length in most races, it is easy to see why NASCAR is way more popular.

NA$CAR is not popular by the length of the races. To tell you something, the length is hurting NA$CAR. Alot of people are bored with 4 hours of boring racing.

I agree that the races are too short. Considering how much money people spend for tickets plus travel and hotel. I'd want more than a two and a half hour race.

The only one I have a problem with is Pocono being 500 miles instead of 400. Other than that, its not too bad.

Some are bringing a NASCAR perspective into this sport. But if that paradigm worked for open wheel the IRL would be successful. TG vision was to move onto the high banks and present Talledega every week. That lost open wheel fans, TV, teams, and sponsors.
I'd much rather watch 24 to 26 sleek racers go 200 laps at Milwaukee than 43 stock cars go 500 laps at Martinsville.
We neeed more than 18 cars for sure, but 43 is overkill. NASCAR could put on a fine show at most tracks with 30 cars going 300 laps.

They could, but the extra 150-200 laps gives the drivers longer to get mad at each other and cause some other entertainment.

What's the point. NA$CAR won't let them show emotion. If they do, they get penalized. NA$CAR just wants the drivers to be brownnosing robots.

IRL races are a bit too short, but the lengths aren't too far off for the most part. I believe the RIR race I have been to the past two years is a 250 lap race. If you bump it up to 300, that would probably be better. You don't need more than that, though.
The field is a little small, but the important thing is the competition and not the size of the field.

I've heard that line before " size doesn't matter " but what I've seen is pretty much the same six or seven cars racing another eleven or twelve paradeing there sponsors name around until they crash or break. I looked at the Champ field today and it's no different eighteen cars quailified where's the competition in either one.
