Heard Dave Despain say that he was going to have Robin Miller on last night talking WoO, and that Robin was complaining about something. Then I missed the rest of the show. Can anyone enlighten me?

Robin was the "Last Call" and he just bitched about the WoO Points system. The whole thing was just a couple of minutes long.

Former Indy car reporter for the Indy Star newspaper that was bounced when it was revealed that he was pimping CART events( and I believe paid by CART) and blasting the IRL during the initial break-up of Indy cars. Always has an opinion no matter the racing style but prefers the open wheel world of racing. If you listen to enough of his stuff he will piss you off and then turn right around say something you probaly would you agree with.

I think Robin Miller gets an undeserved bad rap. He is a great fan of sprint car and midget car racing and a former sprint/midget driver. He had a dispute with Tony George after the open wheel Indy car split but I never ever heard the rumor that CART was sticking money in his back pocket for good PR. PS another reporter that some may not know was a sprint car driver in a previous life is Napscar Reporter *** Berggren. Had to edit this post cuz they deleted Berggren's first name (richard, but not know as richard)

I agree with you Tatnell. I like Robin, although he does at times spout gibberish. But, then again, even I do that at times (1 time out of 100,000).
He's old school, tells it like he sees it and doesn't pull punches.

And to add a little to the original question - Robin was bitching about the fact that Joey has won the most races but only stands 3rd in the points. So Robin thinks the points structure should be changed to reward Winning more. Or actually, he ended up intimating that Winning was the only thing that mattered.
Personally, I don't agree. It's like saying the best guy in class gets an "A", the rest of the class gets an "F". I think the graduated point system is the better way to go and everybody who makes an effort gets something to show for it. Just not as much as the guy who won. (In that regard, I think the F1 system of only giving points down to 8th place sucks. It's like the rest of the field didn't show up. But then I disagree with most of what Bernie and Max do.)
Tatnell1 - you can bypass the "profanity checker" by slightly misspelling the offending word, like Di*k or D*ck or c*ckpit, while still conveying what you want to say.

Sadly, I took the time to look this up.
From an Arbitor ruling on severence from Mr.Miller's firing from the Indy Star:
" can not overlook evidence that during 2000 Miller was working for and paid to write promotional activity for CART--the IRL's competitor." Miller covered both series at the time. Ethics issue.
Most of the ruling dealt with his treatment of bosses and fellow employees via ranting, curse filled e-mails,ect..... Shocker that he was abrasive to people. By the way, the Indy Star firing/no severence was up held.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Miller's rants but I do believe he has fully earned his reputation as a educated, passionate blowhard who sometimes should think before he speaks.

But Robin did propose a point system - when asked by Dave Despain....
"The feature winner(no matter what the series) gets 1(one) point. That's it!". So it is workable, and does make a bit of sense. It gets rid of the "...racing for points..." comment that so many racers use as an alibi for fair or mediocre performance. He stated that he believed that teams race for wins, and that wins should be all that counts.............
Second place, after all, is the first loser.......

Will be typical WoO racing UNTIL they do more of an inversion AND add passing points!

Personally I like the F1 system in principal. Points should be earned not a right. But then again, F1 is a franchise system and qualifying is only for grid position and not to make the race.
I would like to see more of an emphisis placed on winning.
The old adage K.I.S.S. should apply to any point system. Keep it simple. I cannot imagine the confusion in trying to determine points based on passing.
I do think an award in points for the fastest quailifier coupled with a random inversion of the first 8-10 cars is a good idea.
