So As I'm Getting Off The Train
8/14/2009 7:52 AM
As I'm getting off the train yesterday I meet a young guy wearing a black t-shirt emblazoned with the number 43 on the front.
Without even consciously thinking about it Petty came to mind.
It was not until I was couple of steps past him that I realized that it was a Petty Enterprise T-Shirt
Not a big deal in Charlotte, but noteworthy in In Thun, Switzerland!

I know it doesn't apply to Switzerland....but I always get a kick out of the kids you'll see in some African country with AC DC or NIKE Tee Shirts on.
It's a small world out there...

It's not really surprising to see those shirts in third world countries, if you consider how they got there.
People donate used shirts to charitable organizations and thrift stores. Most thrift stores have a policy to never resell anything with a logo on it, at least around here.
Sooo....they ship them to a relief organization who in turn sends them to outer Mongolia or wherever.
Still a hoot to see it though.

Yeah, have to feel kind of sorry for the poor kid, he didn't know any better I would think.

Hello everybody!! Billy is in Sweden, not a third world country...
So, maybe the kid was a Petty fan, it is possible, ya know...
Cool to see so far away - when we were in Guam we saw someone at a luau with a shirt from our high school and that was VERY cool, seeing a touch of home so far away...

A very good friend just returned from a year in Canada, and we were having a laugh about this over a couple of beers last night. It seems no matter how hard he tried to explain that he was from Switzerland, the "Other Sweeden", no one could remember, or it didn't register. Finally, he just gave up and went with it. He explained that he would tell people he was from Switzerland, and they would ask, "Do you speak Sweedish?"
I told him that he should have replied, "No we speak Swissish."
