I thought it was a great race.  Very enjoyable and worth getting up for.  The team strategies were all over the place not knowing if it was going to rain along the whole course or not.  And it also played into the championship going down to the last race with Lewis having trouble pitting on his worn tyres on a wet pit access lane.  Ralf was making some nice passes until his contact and spin.  Nice little battle between Alonso and Massa for second place too.  The next race hopefully will be very exciting with three drivers in contention for the championship.  I still think it's Lewis' to lose.  He will be hard to beat.

I really cannot belive McLaren let Hamilton down so badly.I hope he does not win the Cchampionship, but there was no excuse for what happened to him. He could have easily made a 3 stop race and still finished in the top four or five. They should have been in his ear the whole way into the pit slowing him down. He's lucky not to have punctured and have been hurt as a result.

I don't understand why they didn't put on new intermediates at the first pit stop.  Fuel only.

they didnt put on new inters because they thought it was going to rain hard which would require another stop to put on full wets.  For some reason they thought it was worth saving 3 secs and leave the orginal inters on and do fuel only, instead of taking tires on back to back stops

Actually it takes far less time to change the tires than it does to refuel. They didn't change because with the partially wet track it the worn intermediates were at a prime operating temperature yet being so worn, they were almost like slicks generating more grip than new intermediates. It was too cold/wet for dry tires and too dry for new intermediates. A few of the drivers opted to keep the worn tires. That's how Hamilton was able to pull such a lead when the pit stops cycled. It was not until the second bit of  rain and then when the tires were completely shot that Raikkonen was able to close.

With the dry tires, there is actually a rule that can result in a penalty if a team leaves them on too long and the grooves disappear effectively making them slicks. There is no rule concerning wets or intermediates. So, on a cold and damp track, worn intermediates are actually the best choice. The canvas underlining however, is never fast!
