this weekend's dvd entertaiment extraordinaire was " the golden compass "
starring new young lead actress {don't recall her name but excellent job } nicole kidman , daniel craig , sam elliott
and eva green among others ...
previews would lead one to believe this is a childrens movie but there is a larger story with deeper meanings and thoughts if you care to consider them
but you can also just sit back and enjoy the movie and it's story {and there will be a sequel }
outstanding cinematography , the movie was visually stunning ,
2 thumbs up !

We just watched Michael Clayton and it was a pretty good movie. The story is dark, but moves along fairly well. It is not overtly political, but the protagonists are a big company name UNorth, which in real life could be ADM. Remember their marketing schtick: Supermarket to the World?
Well that's UNorth and it seems that they created some type of farm pesticide that would be problematic for farms that used wells as a primary source of drinking water. Then they covered it up and people died.
So a big business company kills people and then tries to cover it up. Typical leftist thought process, but what is nice is that is the backdrop for the movie, and they wisely used it as such, instead of lecturing the viewer about the evils of corporate America.
The movie is centered around a lawyer (Clooney) who is a janitor, a fix-er upper, if you will. He unwittingly swerves into this because of what the bad guys do to a friend of his, who is the lawyer UNorth hired to defend themselves against the lawsuit. Turns out the lawyer gets a conscience and wants to blow the whistle on UNorth.
It's well acted. I've always thought Clooney was a good actor. If he would stick to what he does best, instead of running his mouth off about things he knows nothing about (to promote new movies, I might add) the world would be a better place.
I'd recommend the movie. The story moves along at a slow, but deliberate pace. The characters are developed fairly well, within the context of the story, which is all we really need.
If anybody watches it and can figure out what the three horses scene is supposed to mean, please let me know. I've watched the movie twice, but can't make it fit, other than that it is convenient for Mr. Clayton to be out of his car at the time.

Clayton was quickly leafing through the book 'Realm and Conquest', that his son was reading and in a way used as his moral compass, and stopped on a page in the book where there was a picture of the 3 horses on a hilltop.
He must have subconsciously registered this picture, and this is what causes him to stop in the car. He sees the 3 horses on the hill and that scene exactly replicates the picture in the book.
He is intrigued and drawn to that hilltop with the horses because it has been foreshadowed in the book. He senses it has some deeper, mysterious significance for him. By getting out of the car his life is subsequently saved as he escapes the bomb. So that picture, and the real horses, in effect save his life.
That's my take on it..

I watched "Dream Girls" when I was in AZ last week. I thought Jamie Foxx stunk as an actor, he was too rigid and unnatural, imo. Jennifer Hutson was the bomb!!! When she sang that song, "I won't leave" - that was the best part of the whole movie, I thought. Beyonce was great also - I did not even realize that was her until the ending credits! I like musicals and thought this was worth the time it took to watch...

i enjoyed both Mikey Clayton and Dreamgurls...
Mikey was intervesting, but I don't remembers much so....not memorable. Didn't he play wide receiver for the Fishies?
Dream Nappy Headed Hoes was good, especially when James Thunder Early was rockin'!!! I agree about my boy, Jamie Lee Fox (from a town not far from here)....too stiff.

We watched "No Country for Old Men" last night with Tommy Lee Jones - yuch! That movie made no sense at all! I should have figured if Woody Harleson was in it it would be a bit off...
