Whatever happened to the 360 guy in Missouri

Do any of you remember the guy who was always on here telling us that 410 racing was almost dead?  He and I used to argue media coverage for the Outlaws too.  I am pretty sure he lived in Missouri.

A little over one year ago I heard THE REF moved to TN and became director of merchandising for SAMMY!

(up until he took the job with Sammy he had been the "mayor" of Sedalia and promoted 360 racing at State Fair Speedway!)

The Ref -- that was it.  And yes, Brad, that was his rallying cry, year after year.  Of course, I would have to admit that we see probably more 360 racing than ever before, but not yet to the exclusion of the 410s.  The PR work being done for the WoO is pretty good these days -- I wonder if he's any happier with that aspect.

True dat.... my neck of the woods is 360 SPRINTER PARADISE.  I must say the ASCS National Tour @ $6K-To-Win is giving The WoO a serious run for their money as far as quality of show.  For me, I prefer the ASCS format of passing points and no TT's.

Depends on what part of the country you live in. Maybe the word dead shouldn't have used but except for WoO, the ALL Stars, and two or three spots in the country it is pretty much dead. Heck Denver doesn't even have Sprint Car racing anymore. I went to Dodge City a couple weeks ago. And I remember when you would see local cars from Oklahoma, Denver, and there was only 3 or 4 Kansas cars there. And 1 of them was a 360. A lot of guys can't even afford 360's anymore. They are running 305"s. But I don't know about 410's totally being dead. I hope not.

I really don't think the 410's are in danger of dying. As has been pointed out, there aren't THAT many hot-spots like there used to be, but they ARE still alive and kickin' dirt.

I'll be seeing some of 'em in just 3 days when the WoO comes to Eagle and I can't wait!!!

I totally agree. And I hope you have a great show. But in some area's car counts are down. i can remember us towing from Denver to race there and at least 5 0r 6 other Denver cars. In fact except for Knoxville and PA can anyone out there name that many more 410 LOCAL shows left.

Chico (Calif.) Silver Dollar Speedway has a 410 local show most every Fri. night during the season.  Fields of 20-25 weekly.

Then the Golden State Challenge series is a weekly traveling 410 series that basically races around Cali. with the occasional excursion into Oregon (Medord and Cottage Grove).  They are racing at Silver Dollar this Sat. for the 4th.

410 racing is alive in Calif. regardless of the Ref''s myoptic predictions!.

Here in upper midwest, Grand Forks,ND (River City Speedway) has had and continues to have a 410 winged sprint car show every Friday nite along with an unlimited late model show on same nite.  Husets Speedway in Sioux Falls,SD has had and continues to have a 410 winged sprint car show every Sunday nite along with a 360 winged sprint show.  Of course Knoxville has the same thing on Saturday nite.  Grand Forks has had 18 to 20 sprints and 18 to 20 late models for years.  Husets numbers may be slightly higher.  Grand Forks cars don't go to Husets and vice versa, except for Mark Dobmeier.

I'm glad to here that. But here's my question. Does the promoters of these tracks offer a health purse? And does he get the crowds to be able to pay these purses? Because most promoters around the country went with 360 and 305 rules to avoid paying the bigger purses. It is difficult to spend 40-50 thousand for motors and race for 600-1000 dollars to win. That is what has killed 410 racing in a lot of the tracks around the country. If you have the money to have a 410 engine program you are going to go race where the payout is good.

As  long as racers have money, can mortgage their homes, divorce their wives, receive their inheritance, 410 action will continue to be as kick ars as ever.
If you have never made The Gold Cup in Chico in September every year where the car count is well over a hundred, put it on your bucket list.
Besides, then you get to hang out with me..........lol...........and ow......and chicofan......bobcat boy?........and many more.  What more could you ask for?

Sounds good I would love to make Chico. I have been around they country quite a bit from our racing days but Chico has not made my list. Way back we made Ascot but that was it as far as California. I know there are other spots around the country that still has 410's but I also have seen areas like Tulsa OK that just 8-9 years ago had a some good 410 racing with the NCRA and it is pretty much dead now. The famous Devils Bowl down in Dallas don't even get the WoO anymore. And that was one of their original tracks when they started Outlaw racing. We here in Denver used to have 25-30 410 cars every Sat. So even thou you are lucky to still have them a lot of us around the country lost them. I know 410 motors sent us home and we ran 360's a couple years but even those was costing 25+ grand. Maybe I can make it out see Chico next year. Heck my Dad lives in Tahoe I make a two for one visit.
