Noted IRL journalist only sees IRL car count going
7/24/2006 9:03 PM
Question: Your column is great. I'm always checking for new questions and answers. Sadly, I read the paper this morning to see that Dreyer & Reinbold dosen't have enough funds to run at Michigan next week. Now with Ron Hemlegarn and Eddie Cheever's team already out and Panther running on fumes isn't this the worst year for team struggles. And now teams are dropping every other week. Right now this year is the closet race for the championship I have ever seen and it is exciting but we need more cars on the track. (Bill from Indianapolis)

Answer: I agree with you on the car count, and the sad thing is, I only see it going down rather than going up. Rahal isn't likely to field three IRL cars next season and it's possible that AGR will do only three. And we see what trouble a lot of the one-car teams are having, so I don't see any of them growing. New teams? Don't see that either. The IRL has a lot of work to do in the off-season.

No big suprise.  The IRL is going to keep losing fans and continue to get worse with the way its still going.
