More Than A 16 Car Field In 2007!
12/3/2006 3:59 PM
Nothing certain but rumors are speculating that Sports Car Driver Milka Duno may be in talks with Larry Cahill in forming a team for 2007 in the IRL with Citgo as a sponsor, plus there is rumor of Fernandez, Vision, Rahal Letterman, AJ Foyt Racing and maybe Sarah Fisher back in 2007. Plus the Indy 500 will draw many drivers back rumors are speculating Robby Gordon returning to Indy next year, and i wonder if Micheal Andretti will try it again. I would like to see Fernandez try it again himself. He is a great open wheel driver.  Also some of the indy pro series drivers may try Indy next year so who knows, alot of things could happen. I cant wait for the season to start. Anyone have any suggestions or heard anything else.

If this is what the IRL will consider a successful 2007 season then things are downright awful.  Milka Duno, I seem to recall when lots of guys were hoping she would move to ChampCar that the IRL fans were laughing it up.  Now you are hoping that Citgo will push her to create Danimania v2.0.  Now I have the most unhealthy obsession with the luscious latina but the reality is this, she is racing where she belongs in Daytona Prototypes.  Sure, she won some races as a co-driver two seasons ago but the team relied on Andy Wallace to do the heavy lifting behind the wheel.  Now did I mind watching her get soaked with champange at the top of the podium?  No, I downright enjoyed every moment of it.  Would I have offered my services to remove the champagne from every inch of her luscious curves?  Why of course.  Hold it, what am I talking about?  Oh yeah, the IRL's driver prospects for 2007.

As far as the rest of them you named, Rubby Gordon can not race in the 500 because Anton George in all of his infinite wisdom moved the start time of the 500 and now the Indy Charlotte double can not be done.  Mikey Andretti may come out of retirement for another shot at the 500 but I would not count on it.  Fernandez making a run would not be so bad as he is still an active driver but I think he is postioning himself to be NASCAR's token Mexican to facilitate their expansion outside the USA with his ties to Hendrick Motorsports.

I thought Jorge Mondaca was the token Mexican.

Many reasons why Mikey is coming back. Top of the list, he still wants that Indy 500 win on his record. He owns the team and brings in the sponsors, you bet he'll be out there, it's marketing. There is a shortage of teams and drivers for the 500, of course Mikey will help out with that and get as many cars as he can into the race. Ah, he's still good enough to be there, so why not? Smile [:)]

I agree with you about why the NASCAR guys won't be there. Somewhere in the past the 500 was on Monday. Maybe they should go back to the traditional date and make it so everyone can come race, including NASCAR, CCWS, everyone else in the USA of A, and them there ferners from Formula Un.

I'd rather see Sarah Fisher get a shot at the 500 than someone new, just because they are new.

Gotta laugh. What happens if Sarah and Milko both qualify and kick Danica's butt. Would they become the two most popular drivers in the IRL instead of Sarah, as the one. I'm still amused. Sarah Fisher is still more popular with IRL race fans, than Danica. Says something about Sarah's respect, that she earned through driving, not through taking it off and doing commercials.

Yeah, I'm with you.  Sahara Fisher is AWESOME!!!!!!  Talk about skill... there are none greater.  I had the fortune of watching her win all those sprint car races...oooops.  Won all those IPS races...oooops.  Won all those Nascar races with Childress... ooooops.  Won all those IRL races....ooops.  Named most popular driver (a sham) in the IRL, appeared on commercials and then brought sponsorship to her team to keep it afloat...ooooooops.

Yeah, she's all about skill.  Earned her way right to the top by doing WHAT exactly?

16 car fields... who cares.  CCWS has done it for years and look at them and their huge $$$ now... everyone acts like they're the cats pajamas.  I stick with what I've thought all along, re-uniting the CCWS and URL/Anton's Folly wouldn't matter... no one cares anymore anyway.  While egos ruled Nascar blew by you and is so far ahead of you that you can't see them now, you're 15 laps down with the halfway point coming up.

As for Anton funding the field... why not?  CCWS did it from the word GO.  They're the greatest thing since pink tires (oh wait, they already have that) so it must be the right thing to do.

Now all Anton needs to do is cut his purses in half and run in Outer Mongolia and airports in rural Canada and call his series CCWS2.

That was mean TX, but I can't say that it was not all true.  It is going to be more tough times for open wheel fans.

Mikey hasn't denied that he might try Indy again, more power to him of he does. But it's going to be tough to fill the field as it has the last few years. They will probably do it, only instead of the suspense of who might get bumped from the field has turned into will we get 33 to even try. Yikes.

Hey Fordfanatic, I am as psyched as you that Robby Gordon is returning to Ford in NASCAR. That is awsome!

Sarah raced go-karts from the ages of eight to 14, including enduro lay-down, sprint dirt ovals, sprint road course and sprint asphalt ovals, winning the 1991 - 1993 WKA (World Karting Assn.) Grand National Championship, being named the 1993 Circleville Points Champion and the 1994 WKA Grand National Championship.

Sarah graduated to Winged Outlaw Sprint cars from the ages of 15 to 18, winning the following honors along the way: 1995 Dirt Track Racing Round-Up Rookie of the Year, 1997 Nominated for National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Rookie of the Year, named to the All-Stars Circuit of Champions series in 1997 (62 race series) and a second place at Eldora Speedway on the All-Star Circuit.

In her senior year of high school, Sarah continued racing midgets. She won five of 23 races in the NAMARS series, including the feature at Winchester, and she holds the track record at that racetrack (14.6 seconds).

In August 1999, Sarah became the youngest person to ever pass the Indy Racing League Rookie test.

On the other side, Danica has how many wins in cars? Any wins cars? No!

Difference between the IRL struggling to find 18-20 cars in 2007 and CCWS having 20-22 cars in 2007 is that one series is shrinking, while the other is growing.

There will be 18-20 cars all season. Tonybucks will make sure of that. Car count isn't that important once either series gets to 18. But we all know that who pays for the cars and the quality of the teams, along with their financial stability, are very important. KK made sure there were 18 cars in Champ Car, Tony makes sure there are 33 at Indy.

CCWS people are buying teams, new teams are being formed. IRL teams are shutting down and going out of business with no buyers to take over operations.

One elevator is going up, the other is going down. Devil [:devil]
