The St. Joseph County jury found Jeffrey Pelley, now 34, guilty on four counts of murder after deliberating more than 25 hours since Wednesday. Pelley faces up to 260 years in prison when he is sentenced September 15.

Prosecutors accused Pelley, a high school senior at the time, of using a shotgun to kill his father, the Rev. Robert Pelley; stepmother, Dawn; and stepsisters, Janel, 8, and Jolene, 6, in April 1989 at their home next to the Olive Branch Church of the United Brethren in Lakeville, about 10 miles south of South Bend.

Investigators said Pelley was angry because his father had grounded him for stealing and would allow him to attend only the prom dance, causing him to miss a prom dinner, a bowling alley party and an outing the next day at an amusement park outside Chicago.

Pelley was not charged in the deaths until August 2002, when authorities reinterpreted evidence. Pelley was living in Dade City, Florida, when he was arrested.

Prosecutors alleged Pelley shot his family members on the evening of the prom, disposed of the shotgun and shells, took a shower, put his clothes in the washer and left for the prom.

Pelley's defense attorneys argued there wasn't enough time for him to have done all that and still make it to the LaVille High School prom.

They also said no one could commit such a gruesome attack and still act "normal" during the prom events, as his friends testified during the trial.

The defense also questioned the decision by investigators not to look for fingerprints at the crime scene.

Police officers testified during the trial that they didn't think they would find any usable prints and they thought it would be a waste of time because Pelley was their main suspect.

The shotgun used in the killings was never found

The trouble is, they have no forensics.   17 years ago.  Man, this isn't cut and dry by any means.

I remember reading about this in the newspaper.  It is strange that they didn't even fingerprint anything.  Of course, FL is that way.  Unless it's a high profile victim, they don't waste their time.  They rule it as unknown circumstances or probable suicide and let it go.  The same things happens when you are burglarized, they steal your car, or they sell crack & have a meth lab.  Not a large producer that can get them all the glory on tv?  Not worth the bother.  BS [:bs]     I wouldn't care so much if:

  1. The crack/meth dealer wasn't getting kids in middle school hooked on this crap
  2.  I wasn't always being victimized by the local youngsters who just keep going to court and coming back home (they get probation or house arrest, show up to the probation officer ONCE & their record is cleared!  Our vehicles were #16 & #21 and the B&E I interrupted was #30!  Justice?  ROFL 1 [:rofl1]  Right!)
  3. When you read about "woman shoots crotch of young boys", you will know they came in my house.  I figure rape is on their list.  I am going to shoot them in the crotch, so they can't add any more white & black trash to society!  And if a bullet careens off something and busts a cap in their little noggin, oops! Laughing [:laugh]

You can say I'm cruel, sadistic and don't understand their "unresolved issues".  You come over here and deal with them.   You'd get pissed after numerous things, too.  They even threatened the elderly lady next door to my son a few months ago- said they'd burn down her house while she was sleeping if she called the cops when she caught them stealing out of her carport!

My best friend mysteriously died a few years ago.  Myself, her daughters and two other close friends know who killed her.  He thrreatened to kill me several times for coming to her rescue when he went off the deep end.  I tried my best to hide her, and he found her.   Three months after the last rescue, she was found dead.   He'll get repaid one day, then he can drink ice water with the devil.

Some pepole are absolutely pure evil, right down to their very bones.  They can do the most brutal things and go right on with everyday life, just like it never happened.  I've been on the receiving end of that experience one time too many.  If the cops searched in the most obvious of places, probably close to the crime scene, they would probably find the gun.  Of course, that may mean giving up a donut or two!      Stunned [:|] Sad [:(]
