I agree ( I think it's what you are saying) that winning should mean something. There should be a bigger drop off from first to second and on down.

Similar to a few years back when Steve Kinser had won twice as many "A" features as the second place point guy, had an euqal number of top fives, and about the same top tens, yet didn't clinch the championship until the final weekend.

I recall reading a Dale Earnhardt quote in National Speed Sport News several years ago when he said he'd take finishing second every week if it meant winning the Winston Cup championship. I remember thinking I hope sprint car championships pay enough to make sprint car drivers start thinking the same way.

is that where it all happens from first to second and down. people are talking about what to change in the sport seems that woo has it kinda figured out in the points race anyway! what is so different in the nst point system? im just churious?

NST Point System pays points each time the drivers hit the track with the exception of the Dashes.
Time Trials:  6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1 point through 15th spot.
Heats:  10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
Dash:  No points
Feature:  75, 72, 69, 66, 63, 60, 57, 54, 52, 50 & down by two

I like the idea of the racers getting points for each spot every time they hit the track which = racing.  But I can also see where the winner should get a larger incentive for winning 12 shows and still being third in the standings.  Passing and consistency are critical to this system.

I think he got one for flying in the Blue Angel Laughing [:laugh]

What really shows in the NST stats is Tim's top 10s.  If you want to win a championship you need to finish well consistently.  Like Kasey Kahne and Jimmy Johnson have 4 wins each in NASCAR.  But one is first and the other is eleventh.
