Dale Earnhardt

Being a Dale Earnhardt fan, I was wondering if anyone knows what became of "Chocolate Myers". He quit soon after Dale died, but I think about from time to time.

It's been a couple of years since I saw anything definite. But, I do know that after Chocolate retired from working on the "road crew," he was still RCR's Director of Safety. I believe he was also serving as the tour guide at RCR's museum.
Edit: correct spelling of museum.

He still works at RCR, running the museum and gift shop.

Thank you, that's what I heard from a few years ago but didn't know if it was still true. He was such a big old huggy bear and as much as I felt Dale's passing I couldn't imagine how Chocolate felt.

Because he was on his pit crew. And now he's doing tours at DEI.

It makes me sad that Chocolate has chosen a job so not what he would rather being doing. However, he seems to have a loyalty to DEI. And for that I applaud him.

Pay attention, Legacy. His job was at RCR - not DEI. Furthermore, from what I saw in an interview with him, Danny was doing what he wanted to do. He chose to get off of the road and focus on the safety job so that others could move up the food chain. From Insiderracingnews.com:
"I've had the time of my life on the pit crew all these years at RCR but it's time to step down," Myers said. "I'm trying to do what is best for RCR. I'm still physically able to gas the car and would love to do so, but it's time to let some new guys have the chance." After 17 years as part of RCR's pit crew, Myers hangs up his gas can, as his predecessor once did for him, to make way for new crew members. Myers will with the RCR family and will now serve as the organization's Director of Safety.

that's not sad..if he chose to pass the torch maybe he realize the time was right to do it instad of hanging on like DW and others did for far too long. Perhaps going to the tracks, esp daytona, provided too many bad memorioes of Big E's death. Each person grieves and reacts differently. i think Chocolate chose to move from the track to the shop...nothing sad there he is still employed by RCR and still drawing a paycheck...and i betcha it ain't smaller then what he was getting in 2001 either.

And from what I've read on other message boards, he enjoys what he does now very much. He will talk with the fans if he has the time, and the accounts I've seen said he seems very happy, enjoying his retirement from the road.

Pardon my mental fart for saying DEI rather than RCR. Appreciate all the responses though. glad Chocolate is happily employed
