TONY and CRUZ PEDREGON RELATIONSHIP
11/6/2007 6:05 PM

"""""For the first time in recent memory, a two-car Funny Car team will be under the same umbrella with two different owners and two different sponsors. Unlike the Whit Bazemore-Gary Scelzi situation in which both drive for Team Schumacher, and of course the Force-Eric Medlen-Gary Densham triumvirate, which falls under the JFR team banner, the Pedregons will each be at the head of their own team but will race as a two-pronged unit. And that opens the door to some potentially delicate scenarios involving team orders. According to Cruz, it won't be an issue.""""

Here we are nearly 4 years later and I'd like for that same writter to revisit this issue, especially now that Tony took the championship.  Other than Force himself and one year for Sclezi, these 2 brothers are the only other FC champs in the last 15 plus years.  I've always liked both Cruz and Tony and while NASCAR has made so much of diversity and making attempts to make a minority driver successful, these 2 along with numerous other male and female drivers in NHRA and IHRA have proven that race, creed or color doesn't matter and that heart and dedication does in fact win the day in drag racing.  Even when Cruz does the sprint car deal like the Chilibowl, he's a LLOONNGGG shot to win but he's still a fan favorite among the openwheel fanbase.  Racefans see a racer first and whatever you are away from the track, unless illegal, doesn't matter.

IMO drag racing is truly a universal sport where who are what you are doesn't matter but what you pull up to the line with and what you do when the light goes green is what counts.  And at the end of the track, they climb from their cars, shake hands and pledge to be back again next week.   And to quote Bob Frey, "and the fans go wild!"
