Use
Turbos
Push to pass
Chassis styles that looks more like the Panoz. It just looks fast.
Customer cars. Three or four homologated constructors and engine suppliers restricted in the DP style of operation. If Sports Car racing can get multiples of each, surely Indy can.
Never thought I would say this...
Concentrate on road courses. Keep ovals limited. I believe this will help retain engine suppliers. Outside of Indy, I don't even care about seeing these things on ovals. Don't run more than 3 or 4 street races (LBGP runs alot like a true road course). The DP races at VIR and Mehico City run circles around most American Open Wheel races.

Chmp Car is dead. Quit trying to make the IRL into Champ Car.

Not at all doing that. But to leave out the best ideas would be braindead.
But let me say this in retrospect. The IRL had the best leadership, if you can call it that. CC's problem was not the racing.
If you incorporate the ideas that are best for Open Wheel racing, and do your dead level best to entice multiple suppliers and constructors, I believe I have it right. And this from someone who wanted the IRL to win out. Why? Sinlge, strong leadership is the best, even if it is TG.

The DP chassis, yes. The turbo idea, no. Glad I never bought a Porsche turbo in the past. Not even Formula 1 uses turbos anymore. The air-to-plenum, pop-off setup was ideal in the day. I always think of overheating and vapor lock when it comes to turbos. I think adding more HP on the current engine formula and push to pass along with paddle shifting is the way to go. Just my two cents.

I have no real problem with that. My main concern is in the realm of controlled customer cars and engine suppliers, followed by venue choices.

Let me also add this.
The difference between CC and the IRL was never defined by machinery. It was differences in idea, management, principle, and money flow.
Putting turbos on cars no more make them CC than they make them WRC.
So think of it this way. Make the series help fill a need as we go greener.
As MPG requirements continue to increase, you will see many, many more cars on the highway with smaller CID, direct injection, and turbos. My 2.0 FSI Passat gets 37mpg on road trips with that exact setup. It's coming. If we stay with gasoline, that is.
Honda will have a hydrogen car for sale here this summer.
Develop a racey-looking chassis style with multiple constructors given room to operate.
Open engine design to fit new energy types. Give the manufacturers a place to develop these ideas.
maybe even get away from spec fuel. Go to a set energy formula. Gas, diesel, hydrogen, energy recovery systems.
I wouldn't miss a race. (So long as they didn't run these things on constant speed ovals every week)
