He seems to be learning to race in NASCAR the hard way. It was a shame the way he was caught up in someone else's wreck last night at IRP. As a long time Champ Car fan who thinks the Aussie Vineyards cars are one of the better looking cars on the grid I would really like to see Marcos put the Aussie Vineyards truck in Victory Lane. Hopefully they will keep the program going next year when he will have a better chance at a win. After a full season of learning NASCAR and oval racing I do not doubt Marcos could challenge for wins.

Marcos has been great this year. I anticipate that he will be a quality driver in the future, possibly with a future in Cup.

He seems to be learning the tracks quickly and doing fairly well. He just has had the misfortune to get caught in other people's wrecks on several occasions, like at IRP/ORP on Friday

I guess he is doing something wrong, because how hard is it to learn to turn left all the time?

As Texas Speed Diva points in her post right above yours, Marcos is learning the tracks and and the vehicles and runs fairly well until he gets caught up in other driver's incidents. This ties in nicely with what I was alluding to. Have you ever noticed that outsiders in NASCAR have a greater tendency to get caught in wrecks caused by others? Do you really think the Redneck Mafia is going to let some furriner from Down Under run up front and compete for wins in a bright yellow and green truck with a big kangaroo on the hood? You can say that Marcos is undergoing NASCAR's equivalent of getting "jumped in" to a street gang.

Aw shucks, that's just the good ole boys sayin' welcome. And they don't mind them furiners who speak the same language with the funny accent as much as them there that don't even speak the same language.

I just cannot believe , unless the rules say otherwise , that Wood Bros. have not put Marcos into a car for Watkins Glen !!! NOBODY would see which way he went !!!!! Cheers.

The Wood Brothers Nextel Cup teams is 31st in points and is locked into the field. They do not really have the resources to run a second car and they are probably reluctant to mess with the chemistry of the team by making a driver swap. If they stay in the Top 35 they are guaranteed of making all the races and if they finish the year in the Top 35 they are locked into the first five races in 2007. There is too much to risk by making the move. However Marcos would probably do quite well in the Watkins Glen cup race given his background in Aussie V8's. I do not think the rules would prevent Marcos from competing but it may not be the best thing for the Woods Brothers team from a big picture perspective.

I totally agree. Marcos is NOT INTERESTED in running a roadcourse, he is learning how to drive OVALS. It is interesting how people want him to become , from some of the suggestions I have seen: A roadcourse "ringer"; A Champcar driver! or a Grand Am protoype or ALMS prototype driver. I have yet to see Top Fuel racer, but you never know.

That I think would be an understatement. He is a Killer on roadcourses, but that is not the challenge for him. He was the 1999 European Formula Ford champ beating people like Kimi Raikkonen and Jenson Button, nearly won the Formula Ford Festival, so roadcourse come naturally , ovals do not.

G'day mate that 22nd by the devilracer was a big blow to a great looking finish, he was about to start to climb through the field when that hit happend.
It would be fantastic if we could get some footage of the races down here in aus.
He is having a ball over there & all we get is snippets from the media here, i think there waiting for him to win !

G'day fordfanatic,
he is turning left & also right & left again trying to avoid the trucks that are having tyre troubles, most of his hits have come from drivers that have either bounced of the walls or blocked his way through on the track.
He has also made some rookie mistakes, but not as many as his team mate.
If it wasn't for the bad luck, he would be very close to challenging for the rookie award. & he missed the first 3 races, he is doing better than alot of the rookies that grow up on ovals.

G'day GearHead what you were alluding to is spot on. the rednecks certainlly do not like him stealing there thunder & getting the pole & top 5's from them, but the reality is that this guy is going to win a race this year if all the ingridience are right.

Yeah eeff, that was some kind of finish, his 3rd place & being the 1st rookie & 1st Ford home is a great achievment in his brief time in the trucks!
Gotta' go & look for some pics of that finsh & a vid if there is one!
