Anyone else as excited as I am that the baseball season is about to start?

What team(s) do you root for and how you think they'll do this year?

I love baseball!!! Woot [:woot]Woot [:woot]

I'm a New York Mets and a Pittsburgh Pirates fan. The Mets should lead the east and the Pirates are always in the cellarSad [:(]

And I'll root for anyone who is playing the Atlanta Braves!

Oh yeah... and the Daytona Cubs stink but I enjoy going to their games here in Daytona!

I'm a Red Sox fan. It's a family thing passed down from my grandparents to my dad to me and I've recently recruited my wife who used to have ZERO interest in sports into a good little Sox fan herself!

In the NL I root for the hometown Phillies. They'd have a better shot this year with an addtion to their bullpen and rotation. They have a great offense though..

I think the Sox have a good chance of making it back to the series. Just need everyone to stay healthy (always the wildcard when it comes to how your team will do..)

I'll be watching the Cincy Reds again. Hoping the'll finish over .500 this season. They did actually spend some money this year on pitching.  But they hired the washed-up ex-Cubs Dusty Baker as their manager. And he has a reputation of wearing out pitchers.  And of course the Reds are still burdened by Griffey Jr. and his multiple injuries and super-large salary.

Boy Howard is getting a nice increase this year with the Phillies eh?

And in the American League... Red Sox are my team! That and the Rays... mostly because they despise the YankeesBig Smile [:D]

By your comments, I'm guessing you aren't thrilled with the hiring of Dusty Baker?  I've been wondering how the Reds fans in general feel about that....

BASEBALL SEASON IS ALMOST HERE!!!!!!! I CANNOT WAIT!!!

Well apparently Dusty Baker has 2 known problems.

1) He has a reputation for over using his pitchers. And the Reds have been struggling in the pitching department for quite awhile now.

2) He's known to take criticism very personally. And the Reds have a broadcast team of Marty and Joe Brennamen (sp). And if you're screwing up or not living up to expectations, these guys will hammer you hard on the air. Especially Marty who has been the Reds radio broadcaster since the early 1970's.

Indeedy ... he overuses his pitchers ... at the MOST INOPPORTUNE times ... and have cost his teams some victories in post-season play.

As for criticism ... he didn't seem to be that way at first, but as pressure mounted ... holy crapola.  LOL!

Er, isn't Thom B coming to Cincy this year?  I thought I had heard somewhere that he left the AZ Diamondbacks to broadcast with his Dad in Cincy....maybe I was dreaming that?

You're right Knight. My finger's were typing faster than my bain. Thom Brennamam is broadcasting with Marty this year. The Joe I was speaking of was Joe Nuxhall.  Marty's broadcasting partner who just retired.

Good eye. You know your baseball Thumbs Up [:thumbup]

Thank ya!

That explains the "Joe" part of it ... I didn't know who Thom was replacing ... I just knew that Thom had said goodbye to AZ and bolted for Cincy to be with his Dad.  I'm, actually, very happy that Thom has that opportunity.  When he was in Chicago, I didn't like him at all ... even more so when he moved to AZ.  But, despite that, I'm happy that he will be able to work with his Dad.  Chip Caray came to Chicago to work with his grandfather, but never got that opportunity, as Harry died the February before the spring they were to start working together.  Always wonder what might've been in that case.....

Speaking of Joe Nuxhall.  Here is a bit of interesting trivia you may or may not already know. Besides being a famous Cincinnati  Reds broadcaster since the late 1960's.  He is also the youngest player to play in the major leagues. He first pitched for the Reds at the age of 15.
