That new helmet law got you down? Or maybe you just don't feel like shelling (pardon the pun) out a couple hundred bucks for the latest Bell or Giro helmet? Times are difficult.

Kano Federal Road Safety Commission commander Yusuf Garba told the BBC they were taking a hard line with people found using the improvised helmets.
"We are impounding their bikes and want to take them to court so they can explain why they think wearing a calabash is good enough for their safety," he said.
Calabashes are dried pumpkin shells

I wish I would have known about this at Halloween - I could have 2 perfectly nice helmets for them, with extra air holes and everything!
