I think this natl's is the dude's to lose. That being said there are some interesting story lines to follow. What will Fast Freddie do from back east? Will Lance make the A? Will The King have a decent shot this year? Hope he makes it a bit more interesting than his performance in the king's royal.

I think the biggest story at the Nationals will be NST vs. WoO.  Both series's want to sweep the podium and have bragging rights that "they're better cuz we beat your series."  It should be some crazy racing!  I'm gonna go with Danny 1, Kaeding 2, and Schatz 3.  Dollansky and Steve will also be there on the podium or close to it.  Any other podium predictions?

How is the Dude leading the points though? I know im a little biased but Kaeding has been dominant, more wins, barely any less top 5's............

As a matter of fact, TK leads in all categories of main event standings:
Driver Name Points Wins        Top 5         Top 10
1 Danny Lasoski 1977 6 16 18
2 Tim Kaeding 1926 11 18 22

But,...
the NST has some wild cards in the way they earn points - I think there may be bonus points to be earned for each of the top 5 in time trials, and perhaps heat race wins also, which don't show up in the NST's published  points table.  There's also the "Opt for the rear" deal where a guy can start last and earn passing points.  Don't know that Danny has done that tho.  Also if, when TK finished out of the top 10 he finished WAY back (on average) and Danny finished NOT SO FAR back, Danny gets more points there on average.  So anyway, there is more to it than just the table of  finish of the A's.

I heard from a guy who used to date a girl whose brother is from a team that ran one of the NST races that said the points where rigged so that a Kinser car couldn't win because no one would go next year.  And his brother heard from their cousin that now the points were being calculated behind the scenes so that on paper it would look like they won more but lost less to create confusion in the ponts fund so that by the time it was sorted out they would forget they won it.

That is really funny, but seriously we from what we have been told, when Lasoski elected to go to the back he earned double points for each car passed.....Plus the DQ on 11k really hurt him.  I was told that the rule is , if you are to start in the top 12 and you elect to start last, you earn double passing points.  I am not sure but, I also think if you use this rule it should be with a full field of cars, there wasn't when Lasoski did it.

You all need to remember the points are the same for everyone.  Taken from NST Point Structure:

8.  Field Challenge:  Beginning with the fastest qualifier in either dash, that driver can elect to start at the rear of the A-Main to earn an extra one (1) season championship point for every car passed in addition to normal finishing points.  If that driver declines to accept the challenge, the Field Challenge will be offered to the next fastest qualifier who made either dash until up to two drivers accept the challenge or until all drivers who made the dash decline the option.

Hope that helps to clear this up.

So where did you find anything that would resemble rules for the NST, I know that I have looked for them and never found them.  Also I didn't say that the points were'nt the same for anyone, I just stated that there should be a full field of 24 cars and there wasn't......
